April 2, 2008 at 7:16 AM词汇里面的‘凸现’好像有错字,正确的是不是‘凸显’或者两个都可以? 声调也不一样,‘现’的是第四声、‘显’的是第三声。

March 26, 2008 at 4:14 PMas shown in the xinhuanet recipe, you have to slice one or two ends open, otherwise they blow up with the heat. You roast them for quite a while in the shell until it cracks open and when the inside comes out easily, very tender and a bit sweet

March 26, 2008 at 4:10 PMroasted chestnuts (without sugar) were sold in the streets of Paris in winter time - still are I guess. It's also a traditional dish in some poor southern areas, there are even special pans to rost them over a stove (with lots of 1cm/half inch holes). This is no joke, I have one of those.

March 26, 2008 at 10:52 AMacorrigan, if you do a search you'll find receipes for sweetened 炒栗子, i.e. with added 糖. Here's an illustrated version, there's even a bilingual one. That's different from the plain version I saw in Shanghai stalls, roasted over coal with nothing added.

March 20, 2008 at 1:52 PMclachan, ruixueer, shen3dan1lin2, there are a few online knitting resources in Chinese such as this forum and wikipedia articles on topics such as crochet, convenient as you have corresponding entries in English. If I have time I may pull out a few technical terms... incidentally, I don't knit myself, but that activity actually fascinates me :-(
