April 6, 2008 at 6:26 AMlydia1981, ‘沉默’和‘沉没’是同音词 : ‘沉默’，形容词，意思是 quiet, reticent (不爱说笑) taciturn (寡言) silent (不说话)。 ‘沉没’，动词，意思才是 sink; founder (没入水中) 。

April 3, 2008 at 12:32 PMsebire, just guessing what country you are from... do you think Germans, Russians, French, Italians, Koreans, Chinese, you name it have to switch to English whenever they discuss such specialized topics? Just FYI, there are quite a number of mathematicians, physicists, biologists etc. from those places and guess what, they were educated in those minority dialects, even coined a few of these terms mind you.
