March 21, 2010 at 4:29 AMI'm not really 'getting through' all those lessons. I don't actually make the effort to commit anything to memory - just hope things will stick after a while. I probably only spend about 10-15 minutes looking through each lesson. I'm in my 3rd or 4th pass through the Elementary lessons. Meanwhile, I'm listening to 2 or 3 Intermediate lessons a day, without looking at the PDF. (This question came from listening to the podcast.) I'll make another attempt to study the Intermediates properly in a couple of months.

March 21, 2010 at 3:43 AMIn the sentence:
贵是贵,但是质量好.
we are told that _是_, 但是 __ is a pattern.
Can we still use 可是 in place of 但是 in this pattern ?

March 21, 2010 at 3:12 AMThanks again Jason.
Are you saying that 才 probably shouldn't be used in an Elementary lesson?

March 21, 2010 at 2:56 AMThanks Jason. I suspected as much, but just wanted to check.

March 21, 2010 at 2:21 AMTwo more issues:
算什么 (suàn shénme). Neither your mouseover Pinyin ("to figure as what") nor you Vocabulary entry ("to be what kind of") means anything to me. There must be a better definition.
And how can such an important new word as 才 not be mentioned in the Vocabulary List.
(I had to place this comment up here, because I knew my earlier question would never be seen if I hadn't, due to this system of threading.)

March 21, 2010 at 1:43 AMOne of the expansion sentences uses 味儿 (wèir), and translates it as 'smell' (as well as taste). However, all dictionaries I've checked only refer to 'taste'.

March 21, 2010 at 1:41 AMSo, she doesn't want you to have a hot body?

March 20, 2010 at 10:23 AMOK, I accept that, but I don't think 'already' is the ideal definition here. I will challenge myself to think of a better word.

March 21, 2010 at 5:07 AMThe last Expansion sentence is:
我怎么什么都听不见了?(Wŏ zĕnme shénme dōu tīngbujiàn le.) How come I can't hear anything?
If 什么都听不见 means "can't hear anything", how do you say "can't hear everything"? (that is, some things can be heard, but not all)
