In reviewing this lesson, I was trying to figure out how to remember  指示 (zhi3shi4) versus  指使 (zhi3shi3). The pdf translations of those two words seemed too similar for me to remember the difference. Further research implied the first is more like 'to direct', 'to command' whereas the second is 'to incite' (which usually means to do something bad). Would that be accurate here?

Hey rjberki, thanks!

Agree, the Kermit voice was a little 'cringe'. Great lesson review sentences though. Made my mind really work hard.

Is someone able to offer me another or more detailed translation for 你就别赶我走了? How can it mean 'don’t kick me to the curb'?

Really liked this lesson. Five stars for the real life situation and super useful vocab.

不知道有没有另外一些学生每次在写下来你们的对话。这一次好多生词啊! 我以为这个课文特别难写! 哈哈

Pete is leaving and we wish him well. Such is life and very much part of Shanghai, an incredibly transient city, where at least among the internationals, goodbyes are many, long relationships few.

But then CPod almost feels like another world, void of turnover. It's a world where we the listeners become fond of hearing familiar voices. We create a bond with the instructors and little by little feel accountable to those who daily encourage us in our learning, which is so precious for self study. In the class, you'd maybe create a bond with the teacher. It's therefore a special thing to hear the same voices, to hear their good and bad days, follow them on twitter or their blogs. We're a part of their world. I believe familiar voices keep up listener loyalty. Having left Shanghai 2 months ago, it was soothing to hear those voices I heard on my ipod at the gym, or on my way from Mandarin school in Shanghai, now on the other side of the ocean...

Pete, you'll be sorely missed. John and Jenny, we can't tie you down, but know that you very much give great personality and personal touch to the show that invariably changes with new instructors. As new instructors are invited in and gain personality, so must the trust of us poddies.

Agree the lesson is quite technical, but would have been super useful when we needed to take back a few items at IKEA in Shanghai.

From my experience, not many of my Chinese friends went to IKEA for furniture. Whereas we find their products reasonably inexpensive, they seem to find them rather exorbitant. However, agree with @bodawei, cafeteria is always packed!

Thanks for the lesson, which you guys always do so great at. Especially liked actor A (one of the less whiny ones you have :) haha) and 摇摇晃晃, a new favorite word! It might also be interesting to have a lesson around the store, to be able to build in some more furniture vocab now we are pros at assembly: ottoman, loveseat, chandelier, duvet cover.. just one idea.

你们好!

我想问一下。 有的时候只要读汉字,不要翻译因为有翻译的话肯定赶快会读英文的。

那么有没有另外一些学生也只要全部中文的课文,然后全部拼音的还有全部英文的?我觉得会帮我们试一试努力一点看的懂。。

谢谢!

Heard that noise too at 13:35. Thought that and the chosen music in the background made this lesson hilarious. Loved it - 加油!

Should have checked it first but just found the ChinesePod dialogue on 坐月子 - classic! Great & humoristic dialogue.
