January 25, 2011 at 2:42 PMWow i had to double check that first sentence in the dialogue. I hadn't heard 扫货 (sao3 huo4) before, but I have heard 骚货(sao1 huo4) before. I was slightly confused for a second. Those tones are a killer at times. Difference between, "I'm going to Hong Kong on a shopping spree", and "I'm going to Hong Kong to whore out" were never so close :P.

January 15, 2011 at 4:51 PMOk so I just spoke with my chinese friend and this is what she had to say.
you could say 快尿裤子 about someone because 快 does imply 快要 but doesn't work for past tense. So you could say 我吓得都快尿裤子 to say "I'm so scared I'm about to piss myself" but for past tense you would say 我吓得差点尿裤子了 to express "i was so scared I almost pissed myself"
Which kind of supported my feeling that 都 is for future tense of something that will happen, and not having it implies current or past actions.

January 15, 2011 at 12:18 PMyeah i was wondering that too, it appeared to me that 都 was used in phrases that "will" happen, you will do, you want to do, or you're willing to do.
Without 都 it seems to imply something could happen.
So for example:
我气得能拳打一个娃娃 I'm so angry I could punch a baby
我气得都要拳打一个娃娃 I was so angry I wanted to punch a baby.
我满意得能亲亲你。 I'm so happy I could kiss you.
我满意得都要亲亲你 I'm so happy I want to kiss you.
The only one that I didn't see fit this pattern was with 都快, but I think the 要is implied. Even so, I want to know why you don't need 差一点 for "almost" instead of 快。Because when hearing it, to me it sounds like "I was so scared I quickly peed my pants" where as
我吓得差一点尿裤子。 I was so scared I almost pissed my pants.
Just my thoughts on it. What do you guys think?
