Thanks Connie. I'm not sure I've got it yet... How about these sentences:

看来他爱上你了。 Kan4lai2 ta1 ai4shang4 ni3 le. It seems he has fallen in love with you. (It looks like he...)

他看起来爱上你了。 Ta1 kan4qilai ai4shang4 ni3 le. He seems to have fallen i love with you. (He looks like...)

看来他不太高兴。It seems he is not very happy.

他看起来不太高兴。He doesn't look very happy.

Can I replace 看来 or 看起来 with 好像?

回答的人说看上去和看起来是一样的意思，不过看起来比较口语而看上去比较书面。关于看来，他写的我看不懂，语法太复杂。他的意见你同意吗？

Would it be all right to say 再不走，恐怕就来不及了 (lai2bu4ji2le). Can 车 be used with 来不及, e.g. 来不及车了?

Is there a difference between 看上去 (kan4shangqu) and 看起来 (kan4qi3lai)?

I've got a question about this expansion sentence: 你笑起来真漂亮！

What is the function of 起来 in this sentence? Is it connected to 笑 or to 漂亮?

If I remember rightly, Jiaojie is from northern China whereas Jenny and Connie are from somwhere around Shanghai. I think it's a regional difference.

I noticed I sometimes mishear "o" and "ng" when Jiaojie reads (as in this lesson), but almost never when Connie reads. I guess I'm not fully compatible with Jiaojie's accent yet ;-) On the other hand, I often mishear "in" and "ing" when Jenny reads, but not when Jiaojie reads. 好像与中文还不兼容啊！(I'm not yet compatible with chinese)
