August 31, 2011 at 11:36 AMI just came back to this Qingwen again because I developed this paranoia about using 以后 and 以前. I think cause one of my friends said that 之后 and 之前 are closer to now, but I'm not sure.
Anyway, what I wanted to ask was if I was just casually saying "Earlier today I was talking to my friend" or "Later today I'm going swimming" would it be okay to use 以后 and 以前? I know John says that it doesn't matter about the length in time but I'm not sure. So would the sentences be 我以前跟我朋友聊天了 and 我以后要去游泳. To me the first one sounds like "I used to talk to my friend". Sorry for rambling, but can someone help me clear this up?

August 28, 2011 at 12:53 AMWow thanks guys, that was awesome. It seems as though most of these usages for 深 are quite formal, so in speeches it would be quite common. If I wanted to say the cave is dark I would use 黑 not 深 right?

August 24, 2011 at 11:05 AMI'm guessing that the 下去 complement doesn't consistently mean "continue"? Because I came across 吃下去 in 他把刚刚吃下去的东西都呕出来了 is there a place that goes into this complement?
