Hey Shenyajin, This lesson reminds me that you were considering starting a regular joke series. How's that great idea coming along?

Hi Cpod,

I've searched for a couple of past lessons lately and haven't had any luck even though my search terms have been totally correct or close. In searching for this lesson I looked for 'Juice' the correct title of course being 'Juiced'. 'Juice' seems close enough to me that it ought to bring up the desired lesson. Allow me to suggest that your search engine needs an overhaul!

And while your at it how about some tags on you lessons that the search engine could pick up. This lesson, for example, might be tagged as juice, fruit, summer, drinks, shopping.

John,

just to add to Calkins run down of the Taiwanese situation, I've yet to meet anyone Taiwanese that understands pinyin; show a cabbie, or passerby a street address written in pinyin and they'll have no idea what it says. Pinyin is strictly for an international  audience, be it Chinese, or Western.

As a foreigner who'd like his life made a little easier, I'm all for standardization of pinyin throughout the country. Understandably, however, its something of a political issue, and outside of Taipei city there is little agreement.

@pearltowerpete:

Not 'some Taiwanese' use bopomofo, Pete, 'all Taiwanese' use it. Bopomofo is standard in the Taiwanese education system and used in the place of pinyin. The only Taiwanese that know anything about pinyin are teachers of Chinese as a foreign language. One example of this difference from China is that you'll find bopomofo standard notation on any cell phone or computer keyboard you might buy in Taiwan.

@jennyzhu

No worries, Jenny, it is only a podcast, and I know it didn't come from the heart.

Along with the sad state of the global economy I'm also thinking back to the early Lao Wang when he was treated with a fraction more regard. Laughing at Lao Wang and/or his situation is good, so long as it's done with just a little affection/respect.

Wow, busy comments section with some well articulated concerns.

My small comment is to hope that poor Lao Wang is treated with a little more respect and  a happy ending. There's a lot of those 'losers' out there these days. Some of them may even be listening to Chinese pod.

@matt_c. Thanks Matt, I'm perfectly aware of how highly contested the issue is. And by the way, both the United States and Japan regard the status of Taiwan as unresolved. As to the recognition of China's claim to Taiwan by other nations, that's about power and economics, as usual. I suggest you learn more about the issue and its history by other means than Beijing based and sourced Western news agencies. I'll leave it at that, however, as you're right, this is not the place to discuss the issue.

Back to the food: my favorite Taiwanese food is just about any of the breakfast dishes. I've even learnt to love sandwiches for breakfast.

Great! The Hungry Traveler is visiting nations other than China. Excellent move. What next? Singapore, Malyasia?  Thanks Cpod, keep up the good work ;)

Still not sure how to say 'take off' for accessories. A distinction was made in the words used for  wearing clothes and accessories but not the taking off. Or did I miss that? Clarification please.
