January 25, 2010 at 2:12 AMNice lesson...
Is there a thread on using Anki in conjunction with Cpod that someone could direct me to?
I'm trying to cut and paste from the expansion exercises into Anki and only ending up with gibberish for the Hanzi.
I'd also like to know if I can take expansion sentences and import them straight to Anki as sound files.
Thanks.

Excellent. Thanks for that.
(I actually said thanks a couple of days ago but for some reason it didn't show up)

January 5, 2010 at 1:21 PMI have two questions, not directly related to the lesson content.
My first question - how to write Hanzi in the comments using pinyin. (or anywhere, for that matter)
My second question - how to input pinyin with the correct tone marks.
I should probably note my computer is a mac running Tiger.
Thanks.

October 21, 2009 at 5:07 AMI'd like to second the general thumbs up for this lesson. I think it was outstanding for a number of reasons, but I particularly valued the expansion exercises: there were lots of examples, and the English was clear and natural.

August 31, 2009 at 11:38 AMHey great! I like the idea of both progressing and growing the story onto Upper Intermediate. Maybe we'll eventually follow Lao Wang onto Advanced, by which stage I fully expect him to have taken control. Capo dei capi. Go Lao Wang. Do us proud.
As to audio glitches. I've certainly noticed them and look forward to them being resolved. I will say that I find it hard to follow the discussion on this matter. Matt, you've moved some stuff which in a following post you've responded to. How about next time doing both? - leaving the thread intact up to the point at which you intervene, as well as bring it all together in another location. It would be easier to know what's going on.
Cheers,

Get off your horse Mr Knight in shining armor. I said I appreciated Shenyajin's efforts while also pointing out that her response didn't wash.
And asking, that, 'perhaps in the future Chinesepod might consider a joke series with English included', was implicit recognition that Sheyajin's group was on her own initiative, while suggesting a somewhat fuller effort in the future.
I'm left curious what part of 'staff member' you don't get?

What, no English because "users would only read the English"! On that logic, Chinesepod shouldn't include any English in the pdf files that accompany each lesson - Nor should Jenny and John provide any English in the Intermediate/Upper Intermediate lessons, least 'the users only listen to the English.'
Not convinced, by your response, as you might guess, nonetheless, I think your joke group is a great idea, Shenyajin, and I appreciate your efforts. Perhaps Cpod might consider a jokes series with English included in the future.

Great to see you've got a joke group going. Why no English? I'm sure many would find this useful in their learning.

February 15, 2010 at 8:44 AMInteresting discussion about tones. I'm in awe of any learner of Chinese who can consciously recall correct tones in such a way that's it's useful for actual conversation. Frankly I don't believe it. I suspect that any good speaker of Chinese as a second language has internalized language patterns and intonations - of which tones are an aspect. I might well be wrong, of course...
