June 26, 2009 at 9:44 AMHi Bababardwan,
I agree with Changye, both Chinese and/or English postings have their merits, and I think the most important thing is for poddies to be able exchange ideas and questions, no matter in EN or CHN.
On another note, I noticed you sometimes use 为 in the sense of "for", like in the above "thanks for your encouragement". From my experience, in "thank you for..." phrases, Chinese simply drop the "for", e.g. they might say 谢谢你的来信 (thank you for your letter; I think one can also just say 谢谢你的信,but am not sure). I think 为 is used as kind of a directional "for", as in 为人民服务 (serve the people), or 我为你而高兴 (I am happy for you). But all these little words get me confused, too, so best to check with a native Chinese speaker...
ah, and then there's also 为 2nd tone and 为 4th tone (I think "for" = 4th)

你问过德语哪里复杂 (可以这样说吗?)。德语是语法难,但如果要学习的话,就跟其他外语一样,只要开始,慢慢来。德语也有个好处,你一掌握alphabet, you will be able pronounce practically any word without a problem. Changye 叔叔,German can't be any harder than Japanese! I admire you for being able to master 日语, which not only comes with characters but also a whole set of complicated grammar (for all I know. My vocab unfortunately is more or less limited to "sumimasen!", "ulutora-man", and "momiyage" - sideburns) :-).
keymagic,
谢谢你关于“要”(意志概念)的说明。对了,“要" 和英语的 ”will“ 不一定一致。The words 要 and 会 are quite interesting; 会 can be used for the future tense on the one hand (他明天会来) but also as a subjunctive form to express a possibility (我如果有钱,我就会买房子 (If I had money I would buy a house .... but I don't, so in actual fact I will not buy a house)。Hope these Chinese sentences are more or less correct.I also noticed that Chinese people often translate 会 as "could"/"would" when actually they mean "will".

我觉得,不管你是学习英语(或其他外语)的中国人还是学习汉语的“老外”,都要慢慢地进入语言、得到语感。对我来说,汉语与其他语言相比还是难学,因为语 言”逻辑“与自己母语(德语)截然不同。我发现,使用自己的“语言逻辑”(一般来说,这就是把自己母语的句子翻译成中文),再说汉语中经常会失败。 而学习法、意大利语,虽然和德文不一样,逻辑是接近一点, 因此,对我来说好学一点。

June 24, 2009 at 1:17 AMHi keymagic,
谢谢, 那么关于牙齿的"hope you get well soon"应该怎么表达呢?
"太错了" --> 太差了 (see above, in an earlier post)

June 24, 2009 at 12:46 AMDavid 是不是在“小太监”里演(讲)的? 我希望你的牙齿快要好点!
网站的名字wx920有含义吗? wx 大概是“无性”的意思,但数字 920 有没有意义?

June 23, 2009 at 11:54 AMHi duyuhong,
你说得很有道理, 语言是一直在演变的东西...加上文化属性差异,会很容易造成误会....我觉得因为学习语言有着这种 surprises 所以也就很有趣!

June 23, 2009 at 10:48 AMHi Pete and Changye 叔叔,
Thanks so much for your help! Indeed (活!), the Chinese language - all those seemingly simple characters with such 复杂 meanings! - never fails to stun me. 活! I 目瞪口呆... (this one probably doesn't really fit here, but I just like to throw around some Chengyu for the heck of it).
