我想没有gender-less的词吧! Never thought about that...though having such "homeless words" would be cool in a way, as it would make people become more creative.

There might be a tendency, however, to choose "das" for new words that make their way into the language, such as 来自英语的外来语 (just my feeling). Also, some articles change over time from der/die to das (e.g. der Radio -> das Radio today, same for die Foto(grafie) -> das Foto nowadays).

There is one word that has lived through all three articles in its lifetime (or so I heard), and that is the word Dschungel (der, but in the past, it has been die and das, too. Meaning jungle. This word came from some other language but I don't know which one).

Actually, come to think of it, there have been instances when we discussed the gender of words, but that is mainly because in the Swiss German dialect, some words come with a different gender from standard high german, e.g. der Reis, der Bleistift (das in Swiss German), and then there are some words that are indeed tricky, such as Mut (der), but Anmut (die), but then again Gleichmut, Hochmut (der).

But at least 小肥狗狗 is not gender-neutral (hope this comforts her!). Alas, she is a der (der Hund). Though you could also use die Hündin. 她是女的，是不是?

Hi pchenery,

As far as I know, to wear a hat (戴whatever帽子) in Chinese is per se not a good thing, but why it should be a green hat I don't know (maybe because the person wearing the hat is naive, =green?).

In other languages, the image is that the betrayed person (green-hat-wearer) has horns (e.g. cornuto in Italian, usu only for men).

好像你们对德语都感兴趣哦! Changye, 你提到的问题，我也不太清楚，新出现的名词的性别是怎么定下来的。我刚刚想起来一些最近几年出来的外来词 (usually English words), but they seem to fall into all three categories m,f,n. Here's a random selection:

- der Computer, das Panel, die Software, die E-mail (in Switzerland, it is das E-mail), das Mobbing.

Japanese words... let me think (random, just as they come to mind):

- Tatami (das), Kamikaze (der), Sake (der, or das?), Yakusa (die, probably because it ends on -a), Sushi (das), Ryokan (der, I guess), ULUTORA-MAN (DER，the one and only).

While I'm at it, here are some more answers. You asked:有没有好的办法可以迅速记住 德语名词.

will try to answer (but bear in mind that I am not sure about the grammar rules, I am just setting up these rules "deduktiv", not "induktiv", just running a few words through my mind) - I am sure there are lots of exceptions but basically:

Masculine: 名词 that end on -er and on -en, -el

Feminine: 名词 that end on -ung, -keit, many nouns ending on -e

Neutral: can only think of the ones above, on -lein and -chen,

You can run a check with the words you know, let me know if the rules above are worth anything or not!

谢谢你关于“亚”的说明。阿对了，我现在想起来, subtropical 也有这个“亚” （亚热带）。

就你关于德语的问题，首先可以记住: 所有带 "-chen" 尾的词都是中性的。The same goes for "-lein". "-chen"和"-lein"都是 diminuitive, 表示“小”。 比如 "Der Mann" 就是男人，但如果加上"-chen"或者 "-lein"，也就变成中性: "das Männchen", "das Männlein" ("a" also changes to "ä", don't know why, just realized now, but this change to Umlaut seems to happen with a lot of words when adding -chen or -lein). Or "Das Kleid" -> das Kleidchen. 甚至“小姐”曾经就是"Frau" (女士、女人）的diminuitive: Das Fräulein. 目前，不是很流行，一般都用Frau来称呼，不管她是结婚还是单身。Männlein, on the other hand, was never used to address unmarried men, it is mostly only used in fairy tales for little guys in big forests, or for toys.

Sonne: 有意思的问题: 因为在很多语言中，概念是太阳 （阳!）指masculine, 而月亮指 feminine 的部分 （拉丁语、因此也是 法语、意大利语，西班牙语等，英语也是 (in poems etc). Maybe the Germans just got it wrong! Or they got it from some ferocious Celtic forefathers, who knows..

Ehi, 也许 in the future 也会有DPod (德)吧! :-)

回到这门CPod的主题: 我今天看过一片文章，内容是“亚婚姻”，作者认为“无性婚姻”也算是所谓“亚婚姻”之一。

The 亚 puzzles me.

I have also come across the term 亚健康, and it seems to be similar (or the same as?) 文明病 (illnesses of modern civilisation, like high blood pressure etc). My question is: what exactly does this 亚 stand for? Would 亚健康 just mean "bad health"?

According to the dictionary, apart from meaning Asia, 亚 also means "inferior". Now here's another question: is it just coincidence that the creators of Chinese chose the same character for "Asia" and for "inferior"? Or are the 繁体字not the same? I only know the one with the cross in the middle (can't input 繁体字 right now).

Wow, 好像你很努力， 加油！刚看你上面的帖子，我才意识到德语形容词实在复杂，以前就没有完全注意到了 （因为是母语，就会脱口而出）。但你不用担心，把语法性别弄错也没有关系，说得越多，错误也会越少。我一位好朋友是半个加拿大人，半个德国人（但在北美长大的），他的德语似乎是完美的，只不过把 der, die das 经常说错了。对理解意思根本没什么影响。其实，他换语法性别时 （比如说 "das Strasse") 才让我想想到底一条路为什么是女性名词呢? (我也不知道).
