I was given the impression by a rather traditional Chinese guy and all his friends that Chinese men aren't in the habit of "proposing" in the typical Western sense of the word.  The whole concept of going out and buying and engagement ring and making a big deal out of getting engaged seemed completely foreign to them.  More often than not they treated it very matter-of-factly, like a business transaction.  Is that the case all over China or was it just in Chongqing? (the men in question were from all over though)

I'm a couple days behind, but wow!  I like this new addition to Chinesepod!  And you really did manage to make it very accessible even though teaching Chinese poems can potentially be overwhelming (having been taught the traditional way on more than one occassion).   Well done!  Can't wait to see more.  :)

I realize this is an incredibly old lesson, but I'm going back and relistening to all of them (I love the sets, more please!) and I just noticed for the first time that the guy literally says "... this is my favorite time of day" and then "Your eyelashes are so pretty." With absolutely no pause in between.  I suppose he was gazing adoringly at her the whole time they were walking, but the randomness of it still amused me.  Do Chinese girls really like it when guys are so over the top?

Is this going to lead to an intermediate/intermediate-high lesson on how to ask for a grande soy latte? or a double shot cappucino? or a caramel frappucino? :)

The man in this lesson is what they would call 怕耳朵 in Chongqing. Poor guy.  :)  Traditional Shanghai men should stay as far away from traditional Chongqing women as possible if they know what is good for them.  hehe

OMG the guy in this episode is so out of line!!!  Someone is making him a sandwich out of the kindness of her heart and he's all critical.  :P

And I actually like the quarter pounders in China that had cucumbers in them.  They were a refreshing change from the stale pickles they fish out of giant vats here in America.

"所以有时候想想小时候的那种兴奋和感动,真的感觉挺幼稚的,不过也是最真实的"  That's almost philosophical! :)  Here's to maintaining our childish wonder long after we've grown up!  Thanks for sharing, David.

I always listen to Chinesepod while I eat lunch/dinner.  This one was rather unappetizing.  :)  Useful nonetheless.   The guy in this dialogue really is a bit 呆, after a certain age any time a girl complains about nausea the first thing people ask is, "Are you pregnant?"

Ahh  this lesson really takes me back.  *tear* Reminds me of the way Chongqing women sound when they get into an uproar about something or other.
