Zhenlijiang - Dilu is one of our new voices here at CPod. For a more proper introduction, check out last Sunday's News and Features show.

Here at ChinesePod we agree that having more male voices would be great. Believe me, we've been looking! It's really a question of supply - the reality is that there are very few male Chinese teachers (at least very few who have applied to work at CPod). We will continue to look, though, in hopes of further diversifying the team.

Also - Baba is correct: Jiaojie and Connie choose supplementary vocabulary in two ways. (1) words related to the topic of the podcast and (2) words heard in the podcast that users might not recognize.

@paulinurus

The suggestion to mix levels is a good one. When I was trying to bridge the gap between ele and inter, I listened to a lot of ele's, then would listen to an inter for a challenge. It was frustrating, but it was actually closer to an immersion situation than listening only to ele's, which feature a LOT more English. While it's harder at the beginning listening to lots of Chinese all the time, I find that you move much more quickly by doing so. If you're feeling overwhelmed, throw in a newbie lesson every once in a while!

We've received a lot of questions about this over the years, so John talks about changing levels here. Hope this helped!

In fact we were joking in the CPod office that maybe this was the philosophy major a few years later! ;)

@RCK You are certainly entitled to your own opinion about "standard" Chinese. It's true that we currently don't feature Beijingers in our dialogs/podcasts (though our actors come from all over China). But I will ask this of you: please refrain from your attacks on the individuals who write and record our dialogs.

Your comments, like: " It is more like a newscaster in America speaking normal english, and then getting some ghetto punk from the hood, some uneducated hick from texas and having them read the news without emotion. the latter two will not speak with proper intonation or pronounce everything correctly" are both offensive and totally off-base. Our staff are highly qualified educators who make it a point of teaching you and all of our poddies useful, error-free Mandarin Chinese.

As I said, you're welcome to debate "standard" Chinese and accents here, but please refrain from posting inflammatory remarks on our website (they're against our commenting policy anyway!).

I usually ask for: 洗剪吹 (xi3jian3chui1), or wash-cut-blow-dry. I don't like to get fancy since I'm terrified of getting too much of my hair chopped off!

我不养猫。(wo3bu4yang3mao1). I'm totally a dog person! Also my significant other is very allergic to cats...

To post an image to a conversation you have to provide a url of that image. What I normally do is upload an image to flickr.com or a similar site, then add it in the comment (by clicking the image icon, then pasting the url of the image in the url box). Hope this helps!
