September 23, 2009 at 4:31 PMThe "Three Self Church" is a chacteristically Chinese way of abbreviating "self-governance, self-support, self-propagation" (自治、自养、自传). This started in 1954 so that the government could control the church. This also restricts any foreign influence within the Chinese Church. Christianity was viewed as a foreign religion and, therefore, unwelcome. Of course Buddism is also a foreign religion but ....

September 11, 2009 at 3:55 PMI have a question for any Chinese language grammarians. During my reading of my elementary reader, I came across 及 linking two nouns together. Is this completely equivalent to 和? Is this character only found in written language?
