September 15, 2008 at 4:21 AMfascinating exercise listening to this advanced level.Prior to studying Chinese ,it all sounded like musical babble.Listening to this advanced level now ,even though I couldn't follow it ,I founnd that I can hear the sounds and tones of the individual words, but I just don't know what most of them mean,so if one was just to learn more vocab,it all seams possible one day. It's like having a map to the long road ahead. It was great to hear the dialogue at what seemed like a normal speed, and when I did hear a word or phrase I knew, it was like a lightbulb being turned on and was very clear.Even better to look at and listen to the words on the vocab tab and then listen to the dialogue again and then pick them out as they come along. Thanks CPod for having those words on the vocab tab in chronological order.I've just realised it will be even better to have the pdf up and listen to the dialogue again [better than the dialogue tab as can't keep up by scrolling over].If nothing else,a newbie can access some great vocab on the vocab tab.Great resource.

I agree.I went to Chinatown here in Oz yesterday and came up totally short on vocab.I had read some of the terms in the discussion, but as I hadn't heard it in a podcast,I hadn't retained them. The best I could do was to wish people :zhù nǐ dàngāo kuàilè which I knew was wrong [and probably should have at least left out the dan as I know that refers to eggs and thus western cakes ].However the Chinese were very polite to me and perhaps knew what I was trying to say [and probably had a good laugh about it later ].All good fun.But while the mooncake festival was yesterday [14th ],it will still be celebrated here next weekend as well,so not too late for a podcast as you suggest.

I also use urban dictionary on the odd occasion that I hear a new slang word.Do you know if there is an equivalent for Chinese slang?
