No apologies necessary at all;不用谢 bùyòng xiè.You got it right the first time. In my last post after " some clarification was needed " I was going to add "that if the truth be known I really just wanted to hear your impersonation of the sounds of that beast for a laugh",but I knew this was redundant as this was understood already.Your conversation with rj has been much enjoyed by myself on the sideline here.
Crazy depends on your perspective and motivations. In the case of the alleged yowie sightings I gave above ,it is so long ago now but I think it may have been an April fools joke at the same time.If the motivation was to attract tourists to a town, ethics aside,it worked.

Actually ,down under,I think most would be well aware of Big Foot [Sasquatch].After all ,we have our own version here in the form of the Yowie.I was pretty sure that it was Big Foot you were showing in your above post ,but due to the close resemblance to other closely related species thought some clarification was needed. The abominable snowman or Yeti is from the Himalayas [China] so that was a possibility.Several years ago ,a town's business wasn't doing so well here ,so claims were made of a Yowie sighting .Reporters got involved and gave live coverage to the chase, and the tourists flocked in .It worked. Here's a link re Yowie:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Yowie_(cryptid)
So my question back to you is;have you heard of our Yowie before?

yes;this is just one of the many things I love about this language;the interesting derivation of the words and what it tells about the way things are viewed.I note there are some really good things being done in the groups looking at the etymology of words.mandarinboy has been doing some great stuff. But I feel like a kid in a candy store exploring this website ;I don't know which way to turn as there are so many cool things to check out and only so much time in a day.

Thanks for that explanation.I have only been hearing of renminbi since coming on Chinese Pod,as I always thought the currency was yuan. It's nice you've not only explained it ,but also put it in context.

September 25, 2008 at 2:11 AMWas wondering why Chinese astronauts are called taikonauts and found this for those who like me didn't know and are interested:
The term was coined by Western media based on the term "taikong" (太空 in pinyin: tai4 kong1), Chinese for space.

More info required please.Like in the lesson,I think we need to hear the sounds the 动物 makes [to distinguish between it and other closely related species ].Could you please provide such an audio cue and then maybe I could answer your question ?

September 25, 2008 at 1:44 AMlove the intro;"wandering...forlornly..friends" haha..tragic but funny. We can all relate to at least the concern of losing our mobiles.Great and highly relevent lesson. At the right level too as need the extra dialogue to handle such a situation.Great dialogue too.I like the word to the wise message.
When I first saw the word xiao2tou1 for thief I thought it may have derived from small head [meaning that a thief has lost face ] but I then realised that tou2 is head and not tou1.I was obviously on the wrong track, but still this may help me remember thief.
I take it that China mobile is the largest carrier? I wonder which carrier has the broadest coverage, which is best for westerners, etc.

Just under the picture of the cow is the section "lesson review downloads".I recommend clicking on the first item "full lesson radio quality" [less mb than cd and the quality is fine for me].For me this opens in quicktime.I then click on file and chose save to my disc.Next connect your mp3 player to your computer.just a matter of right clicking on the downloaded audio and selecting send to [a list usually pops up] and then selecting your mp3 player.I'm sure there are other ways of doing it ,but this is the method that works for me .Probably a way of sending it directly to your mp3 ,but as I want it both on my computer and my mp3 I use the above method .I hope this helps. If not,at the top right of the screen [just to the left of your mail] is the help button which has plenty of technical advice you can search. All the best and enjoy.

September 25, 2008 at 2:09 PMThanks henning. Can you direct me to where it is explained how to put those links in that you do like "obviously" in your post above.Very cool. Also, when it comes to adding photos,I can only work out how to load photos that are on the web as it asks for a url.Is there a way to load your own photos if so desired?
