September 27, 2008 at 4:35 AMI loved the sound Amber made on experiencing the taxi drivers icky nail touch her hand when giving her change.I could almost feel the vibration in disgust came down the internet to my computer.lol.And perhaps herein lies another theory ,particularly pertinent to say taxi drivers .Perhaps they are hoping for that reaction so that next time you'll be more inclined to say "keep the change" [for Pete's sake ..and keep that icky thing away from me...goodness knows where it has been ]

Thanks for explaining that 'cos like greggs I was wondering about it too ,and knew I should check it out as I think I saw it mentioned before on another post as well [by you I'm pretty sure].That PlecoDict looks supercool [particularly if you were in China on the move],but unfortunately I don't have any of the devices it runs on.Will content myself with checking out the ZDT in the meanwhile. Thanks also for sharing your vocabulary .txt files for these programmes.Champ!

Thanks a lot mate.I just got the link to work in another post [on topic of Government].Certainly makes it a lot tidier [some of those url's are long and I had a problem with a couple of posts because of that;it would chop off some of the post ],and also easier for people to click on.Well explained.

Just thought I'd point out that the section "latest news" is still saying to check out the latest video "street food buffet" [not that it worries me]

If you scroll to the top of the page ,you'll see that we're currently under the discussion tab.Just to the right of that you will see dialogue, vocabulary, expansion and exercise tabs which I recommend you explore as they have the Chinese characters, pinyin, and English.Hope this helps.

I honestly thought I would get this response from someone residing in the UK,as I have heard people coming out here from London talk about exactly that;closures due to engineering works. However it's all relative I suppose. When I lived there in 1995 you could catch the tube to almost anywhere [and get off within easy walking distance of where you want to go ] and it came along at least every 5 minutes.Even then there were occasionally closures but I thought it was pretty wonderful.Perhaps it is not as good as it was,but I still wish we had as good a system in Brisbane. But believe me ,I understand how frustrating it can be when public transport doesn't run on time or services that you are relying on aren't running at all.I hope things improve for you.Cheers.

September 26, 2008 at 8:54 AMAs well as the vocab,it was interesting to see the di4tie3 in action. What struck me was when Connie and Jiaojie entered the video ,the di4tie3 was not nearly as crowded as I would have expected [the train was less crowded than here in Australia during peak hour ].I would be interested to know roughly the time of day it was filmed [peak hour or off peak].Is Shanghai's di4tie3 as efficient and convenient as say London's subway [very regular trains and good network] ? How does it compare with other di4tie3 around the globe. It certainly looks like it may be very efficient.
Thanks for another relevent lesson. As mentioned in the lesson "come on up" dian4ti1 is not just for elevator ,but also for escalator,so it was nice to have that reinforced in another format.

Yes.The first [easiest level] is "newbie" and the next level above that is "elementary" .This lesson was "intermediate" which comes after elementary. If you click on lessons up the top ,and then under that click on the middle tab "channels" you will see there are currently 269 newbie lessons to chose from.Hope that helps.Enjoy !

September 25, 2008 at 2:25 PMps I loved your tip about not saying hello bigfoot to everyone [ie not getting jia1 mixed up with jiao3 ].Very funny and I'm sure it's been done. You would just hope that Yao Ming has a sense of humour if you accidentally came out with the wrong one in front of him.
I've also just realised that I wrote the wrong Chinese in my last post.Obviously bu4yong4 xie4 means no need for thanks. Can one say bu4yong4 dui4buqi3 不用对不起 ,which is what I was trying to say ?

Always nice to see a photo too to visualise:
Now all we need is a blackboard, hey Amber ?, to really get the spine tingling...
