I hope you're excluding CPod addiction [my only addiction as far as I know] from your comments on Internet addiction [and thus mainly referring to gamers] otherwise I'm in serious trouble .Barring that ,I would agree with you.All things in moderation.
Also,I wasn't suggesting China had a particular drug problem per se ,but just that some degree of the problem exists everywhere as far as I can tell. But this would be another reason it would be an interesting topic for DA;to discuss the level of the problem in China, main culprit drugs etc.But is this too sensitive a topic? Plenty of other things to discuss of course.

Whoa;fastest gun in the west.Or I suppose that should be East.Thanks.I love the Chinese description of things.Big numbness;lol.
Actually I think this could be an interesting subject for a DA show;drug culture in China [even though it's certainly not my scene].There is the historical aspect with the opium wars.Current attitudes, terms used ,legal aspect, etc. would all be interesting.

October 21, 2008 at 1:03 AMDoes cao3 also refer to marijuana like it does in English?
Bugs bunny:"What's up doc?"

Doc:"Keep off the grass"

October 19, 2008 at 10:20 AMThe topic of job interviews reminds me of something the comedian Steven Wright said several years ago:
I was in a job interview and I opened a book and started reading. Then I said
to the guy, "Let me ask you a question. If you are in a spaceship that is
traveling at the speed of light, and you turn on the headlights, does anything
happen?" He said, "I don't know." I said, "I don't want your job."

October 19, 2008 at 10:15 AMVery interesting and topical subject and I'm sure very useful to any that have to face this in China.I've heard this sort of testing has also crept into Australia in both pre-employment and also in entry to some uni courses. However I think it has some major limitations in that it is usually pretty obvious what would be the desirable answer [which may not be the true answer for the individual ].Although I have heard of some questions which are perhaps not particularly fair. One that comes to mind is whether you would put work or family first. For me ,family would always come first. But what I would find particularly interesting would be the differences [if any;I presume there are some ] in questions and the interpretations of their answers between the East and the West. Not sure I would feel as confident on what answers were being looked for in China.I think this would depend on ones depth of understanding of the culture.I'm not suggesting that one should answer dishonestly. But human nature would dictate that if your employment prospects depended on what answers you gave then most would be at least trying to figure out which answers were desirable. This is different of course to people who do such tests just for their own edification.

"in the mainland, the government has a way of sneaking even into the sacred realm of the monastery..... And there are some who are not who they appear to be"
....very interesting comment.I'd love to hear more on this ,but am I right in guessing you have to be careful what you say? Freedom of speech is a wonderful thing.
