ha, yeah, how lame was that line. I can't believe folk could take themselves seriously and come out with something like that. I couldn't help but wonder if there were any cultural differences at play here though. I mean here in Australia we have no time for that attitude [ so I couldn't believe it when one of our tennis stars here actually cracked out the old "do you know who I am?"...recently..don't know what planet he's on, but that was never going to fly, particularly not here, hehe], but I'm wondering if it is regarded in such a poor light in China, or if people are actually impressed/intimidated by who you are or who you know?

haha, I love this lesson!!  But not so much because of the "juicy" chaojia, the dialogue which is always good, but particularly because of the discussion between John and Dilu. Hilarious!! hehe. Haha, loved John's imitation of "哟“ ..and description of the intonation of the words used in the chaojia, so good...put me right in the picture and added so much meaning to the words ...and sooo funny. hehe.

ok, had a read now and it makes some sense I guess. I'm not overly impressed with the low numbers in the study. I'm not sure if it said where the volunteers were sourced, whether they were from comparable educational backgrounds, and other relevant demographics [ for example, city folk on average tend to speak faster in many locales....not sure if this applies in China and would be interested to know, but my guess is that it does, and of course educational level may have an impact there is well when it comes to reading]

“it's time for Chinese people to get a chance to laugh at us”

。。。就是。。。多有意思。 在这节课程当中我最喜欢的例子是毛和离婚[很尴尬,呵呵]

“Syllable per second, Mandarin is actually one of the slowest spoken languages in the world”

ha, interesting. Not read the linked article yet, but I wonder if its the tones that slow it done, particularly if they are to be clear.

would have thought it could mean either depending on context, no matter which part of the English speaking world you're from.
