frognotinawell,

Thanks for the tips about the popup translators.I already had chineseperakun but it's good to try some others to see how they compare.I just downloaded Pablopopup for ie and it seems to be working fine. With perakun though you can toggle it on and off which I find very useful as the popup can be annoying at times when you don't need it.I especially find perakun interferes when I'm trying to write hanzi so need to toggle it off.I can't see where you can toggle on and off with pablopopup. Is this possible? Also,do you have a favourite out of these popups.I might try the otherone for google. Is there one for macbooks?

Excellent tip calkins! Don't know if I'll ever need it,but you never know.Where did you find them? Are they traditional? Are they widely recognised?

Pete,

I have a question about the final line of the poem which I couldn't quite follow. It is in relation to the interpretation of 遥.According to mdbg this character represents distant/remote/far/far away which does tie in with what you said about the shepherd boy pointing to the apricot village in the distance. What I was unclear about was that you also seemed to be saying this same character also indicated that the shepherd boy was herding water buffalo. How is this so? Perhaps I have misinterpreted  what you were saying or mdbg is not giving all possible. Also the character 牧 is interesting as you pointed out in the breakdown as it has the cow radical, but can still mean shepherd. Why didn't they use a sheep 羊 ?

Interesting that both 断 and 指 have been in recent lessons.

魂 is a very interesting character.云 as you point out being there mainly for the phonetic in 魂 but also seeming appropriate in terms of adding meaning.I wonder if this was a coincidence or deliberate? But the other thing that interested me about 云 was even though very different in character, its similarity in sound to 雨 which is after all where rain comes from.Surely this must be more than coincidence?

petercook1,

As a fellow macroPod,let me explain. You know the game.."she loves me,she loves me not,she..etc" ? Well this new micromacroPoddie was ambivalent and this is shown by the exclamation marks at the end [each one representing a flower petal],and thus each one equating to a change of mind;hate chinese pod/hate chinesepod not/hate chinesepod/hate chinesepod not.. etc.So if you count up the exclamation marks you will see that in the end she came to the conclusion that she hates ChinesePod not.Now she can play the extended version "I love ChinesePod,I love ChinesePod lots".Perhaps it was inspired by the idea of a human pyramid, and instead of picking off flower petals,we could pick off the people on the pyramid to help decide.Perhaps B in the lesson could use a similar game to decide if the talent scout really did think she had talent or not.

changye,

对,听说他很喜欢他的分形手因为它有多用的[最小的手指是很好为印鼠客蚤和头虱丢掉]那么好,所以他要求大熊砍都手指的右手;所以有新分形右手∶

现在他很高兴。是惠在扮[It was a blessing in disguise].他还找多用的分形手!

谁会帮他找新用的??

也许他能偷Pete's100块钱藏在他的脚底下
