Nice connections.Yeah, classic monty python scene;one of my all time favs.On the topic of cloudy mountains, wisdom, etc, what about the bridgekeeper scene from the same movie?

Good point re "duoooooaaahqianaah".I like your explanation bodawei by comparing with our "ow much".
I think a CPod lesson on such colloquialisms and on slang would be great. Not that I want to learn to speak poor Chinese [that would be a real nail in the coffin of trying to be understood],but I certainly want to have the best crack at understanding what is said.I think as long as this was pointed out that it wasn't the most proper pronunciation then it should be no problem.I'm sure there must be heaps of these.Perhaps it should be in a slightly higher level so as not to confuse the newbies. How about it CPod?

谢谢,
"一见钟情" seems to be the equivalent of "love at first site",but I was referring to the saying Pete mentioned in the poem which means basically that you can bump into love but you can't seek it [which Pete has given as 可遇不可求 ],which I think while similar,is not exactly the same as love it first site,as it doesn't necessarily imply that this bumped into love is something that happens on the first meeting/sight IMHO.

April 28, 2009 at 6:23 AM宫保鸡丁 reminds me of one of my favourite movies. If only the menu stealer had seen it,he might have seen that head butt coming and got out of that tight spot.Or perhaps if he'd ordered and eaten the 宫保鸡丁 instead of stealing the menu,he may have acquired the moves;after all,you are what you eat.

April 28, 2009 at 5:02 AMThanks Pete,
So one would say "爱可遇不可求"... ?
Pity that yu isn't 雨..as in love will rain down on you but you can't seek it;particularly after our talk of clouds here. One can find onself in the clouds but you can't easily seek 'em or grab a hold of them.

April 28, 2009 at 4:47 AMPete,
Chauncey loves this poem.Fab to also have the fool on the hill link, and a connection well made [very interesting comparing eastern and western culture].Been a Beatles fan since I was a kid.Top question re "head in a cloud".In answer to your question I think it really reflects that the person being referred to is on a completely different wavelength and not understood by the commenter.A failure to connect/understand/communicate is being shown.Perhaps he is just a dreamer,it's all relative, but perhaps he has reached a level of enlightenment that can't be appreciated by the casual observer who is so attached to the day to day world.Of course I love the fact that the head in the clouds now, after comparing it to this poem, conjures up one of those mystic Chinese mountain scenes with clouds about, like this one:

What was that great quote in Chinese about love being bumped into?

April 28, 2009 at 4:21 AM糟糕!;sensational head butt ending, but will the menu stealer survive for future episodes, and will he still be the full quid whose Chinese we can rely on? Don't want him to be a 黄瓜 short of a Kungpao chicken dish [It's the menu stealer Ken,but not as we know him,not as we know him]
Just as Guilin Mifen had restorative properties for those soldiers suffering tummy upsets,I hope there is some historic Chinese dish that will alleviate the menu stealers major 头疼 and bring him back to his senses.Nurse, nurse !
