expanding on bodawei's question 2 answer, you can find a more detailed explanation here which you can get to by clicking on the word "here" that I just highlighted or by navigating to it...go to the bottom right corner of this page and click on more help and then look under the faq's in the technical section at the bottom. There's heaps of good info to get you started.Come back and keep asking questions if it's still unclear and I'm sure someone will be happy to help out.Good luck :)

November 21, 2009 at 10:55 AM很有用的课程;明显和简单.How about when you have birds flying very low over the surface of a lake or other body of water? The surface of the lake would be 湖面 right? But describing where the birds were flying...would you use 湖边 ..which my rollover just now says is lakeside [makes me think of the bank]...what if they're right out in the middle of the lake flying very low?

Actually where I come from that has always been the case, however in the last couple of years or so the major chain of theatres here changed to all assigned seating. You can book the seats online too and see which seats are still available. Not usually necessary unless it's the first day of a major one.

November 19, 2009 at 12:32 AMI question about skritter.I'd like to use it more but the times I have thought of using it are when I want to write something specific and the trouble I'm having is trying to find where that word is.An example.I want to write the simple character 只 but how to find it? I tried the search function entering the English word "only" [as I think it still doesn't allow look up using hanzi which would be an awesome improvement to the search function] and just tried scrolling through the lessons it came up with but after doing this for several lessons I gave up.I then went to my vocab tab and looked at some under my newbie label but there's just too many.I tried adding it in the vocab section but then it said I already have it.Is there an easier way to find a word that you want skritter to teach you how to write? If not,is it possible to add this ability in future? Thanks. :)

November 18, 2009 at 8:37 PMok,I may not be a newbie, but I am when it comes to learning the radicals.I reckon it'd be great if CPod had another crack at a channel teaching us about radicals and also how to recognise them in their morphed forms, the construction of characters, etc.I suspect that if this was an aspect of learning incorporated at the start, while not as important as learning some basic phrases,it could kick start character recognition.

I like your line "go take a flying leap",hehe.Having been warned,I think I would take you up on that advice.

hehe,警察来!警察来!【police coming ! police coming!]..good one mate.I like it.I can imagine it working too...the crowds..and the swift response that was referred to in ousijia's unforgettable 中国 [china] experiences
ps I got the idea of checking whether my phrase had any validity at all by googling it under quotes and got zippo, hehe.I don't know for sure when you have a string of 6 characters whether that means it's completely invalid [I would suspect strongly this to be the case if it was upto 3 say].I mean I'm sure I could come up with a short sentence in English which would come up with zip under quotes [in fact have done so plenty of times].I did come up with one result when I chopped one character out which still preserved the same meaning:
不退就捣乱[if you don't retreat there'll be trouble]
hey, case in point...I just tried googling the English "if you don't retreat there'll be trouble" in quote marks and also came up with zip.
pps Yeah,it's funny you mention about seeing that dramatised on telly, cos when I was trying to think of an answer to oranginas question I was thinking of how there must be some good lines from the movies for this situation.I was thinking of "House of the flying daggers" and how Ziyi Zhang must have come out with a good line or two there, but I just don't recall.Of course ,she let her martial skill do a lot of the talking ,hehe.

November 21, 2009 at 11:36 AMthanks for 靠 bodawei, and especially for it's use in directing a taxi driver.
hmm,也许 there is no word specific to describing close to the surface of the lake.I just tried mdbg translate and it came up with:
鸟类飞越一湖面非常低
..but yeah,I'd be interested if 边 can come into play here or not.
