January 17, 2010 at 2:00 PMhehe, you just beat me to that exact expansion of my guess at it...just after I posted it suddenly struck me that these split words are verb noun combinations and that it makes perfect sense to split them.Though I don't know,I very much suspect that is the answer.'twould be great to get confirmation though. :)

January 17, 2010 at 1:41 PMchris,
I saw you post that earlier question mate and thought it was one of the best questions I've seen in a while and was really hoping you'd get an answer. This question is even better because you've shown sometimes it's split and sometimes it's not.I have no idea whatsover what the answer is myself so sorry I'm no help. Two possibilties occur to me as wild guesses. One is that either way will be fine. The other observation is this.In the 讨论 example both component parts can individually mean "discuss" and marrying them together perhaps just makes it clear that that is the intended meaning but as they both kinda mean the same thing then maybe there's no point splitting them, whereas this is not the case with the other example of 操心 so perhaps it makes more sense to split 'em,but as I said i'm just having fun with a wild guess and let's hope you do get a proper answer here mate :)

January 17, 2010 at 7:10 AMthis word 鼠标 for computer mouse is interesting.I'm presuming that 标 was chosen for it's meaning of mark indication...meaning the mouse was indicating or pointing to something on the screen.
I think 杀杀毒 sounds much more effective than antivirus [which may just be anti the virus but unable to get rid of it]
不会。。almost sounds like no way, just as 服了 in 服了你了 almost sounds like fool.
