Interesting.I'm wondering where you got the 2000 from.Is this something you came up with yourself? It seems to be based on estimating just over 5 hours of passenger time a day.Does this take into account petrol,and other expenses? Also,do most taxi drivers in China own their own cab or are they on the main working for a company? I gather you are suggesting stating your own salary to be roughly the same as the cab drivers to put yourself on an even footing,duibudui?

不用谢。欢迎。The next best bit of advice I can give you is to install a popup translator [if you haven't already] which enables you to hover your mouse over Hanzi and see a dictionary definition popup.I use mandarin popup.Gotta dash in a tic...you should be able to find it by googling it but if you have trouble let me know and I'll see if I can find it later.

Right,I see.I would have a couple of thoughts on that.First that I would think that a little difficult to guage....or is it? For example I wouldn't have the foggiest about how a word like nerd is used in Nigeria.Do you have any insights on that front? Secondly,I would have thought in general though that this evolution of nerd was relatively widespread as the world becomes more homogenous and through the widespread exposure to,in particular,American culture.But as I say I think your interpretation of the word depends on context,intent,and your viewpoint.

Interesting comment.I think I understand what you mean but am not certain.I think you're saying that because you're a non native speaker and communicate with other non native speakers you are not part of the evolution of the word and thus stick to the original meaning of the word and consider any evolution like learning a dialect.Have I got that right? Of course what is derogatory all depends upon your point of view..it is extremely subjective.I recommend watching a reality tv show called "Beauty and the Geek" for some insight into this and a few laughs. :)

thanks so much ellen for your in depth reply.Yeah,zhenlijiang was right in that I knew what hallelujah meant but I just wanted confirmation that what sounded like a transliteration of hallelujah was actually referring to that word.I think I must have missed that the mountains were called hallelujah in the film [I suppose I should have turned down the CPod playing on my mp3 at the time],so I now understand why.I have just now found an interesting article that discusses the name change Jenny refers to:
