March 30, 2010 at 1:39 AMah yeah, you've just reminded me thanks zhen. I had meant to add that as English is not their native language and their English levels vary I wouldn't assume that they necessarily knew what the English word "spamming" means. And I also meant to add just that..the message on the sign up page should be in English and Chinese.

March 30, 2010 at 1:15 AMI know most will disagree with me or strongly disagree but personally I don't find these messages looking for language partners annoying at all. They're invariably very friendly and polite [ I still think they're somewhat touching at their earnest offer of friendship and partnership] and I believe posted with the best of intentions.Often they do end up hanging around a bit and giving some helpful pointers.I feel really sorry for them when I see the reception they get.I can't see that they are likely to know the sites policies or how it works here..most just seem to stumble across the site.I presume the multiple postings are because they don't realise that we'll all see it if they just posted once and think they need to post on a few threads thinking only folk on those threads may see it...they all seem to make the same mistake there.I wonder if when they first sign up for the trial there could be an obvious message on the sign up page directing them to a single spot on the site that could be set up for language exchange.Once they're in the site I think any such message would be easy to overlook.

March 28, 2010 at 2:13 AMps I'm wondering who will be the new go to man developing the technical side of the site? Is there still a plan to develop SRS to be used with our flashcards on this site?

March 28, 2010 at 1:31 AMJohn, you nearly gave me a heart attack mate, and I'm too young for that.I'm very glad there was some reassurance to follow and you'll still be around.Anyhow, good on you for taking on that entrepreneurial spirit and giving it a crack.I'm sure like everything else you do it'll be another great success.Jiayou :)

March 27, 2010 at 4:31 AMthrow me a lifebuoy and instead of landing conveniently beside me it hits me on the head!
..ah,sorry 'bout that Chief..hehe.Still I'm glad I did 'cos it's elicited another excellent and insightful answer from you mate.I particularly like the surreal Jetson's like reference.Oh when oh when can I get there !!
Yes,it certainly strikes me that if one is to travel to China ,one has to see Shanghai as a priority [with the open invitation from the ever so friendly CPod offices being no small part of that attraction],and then the so called "real" China.

March 26, 2010 at 11:51 PM"China's parallel universe"
...would it be fair to say that alongside HK,Shanghai has been the Chinese city most exposed to western influence? Anyway mate, would you care to expand on "China's parallel universe" ?

March 26, 2010 at 5:26 AMthat's because not only will the paltry daub of sunscreen offer her diddly squat protection from the rays, but it won't cool her either. She needs to cover up and get in the shade or in the water.

March 25, 2010 at 1:19 AMActually I'm sure many will agree with you dfooks, but I thought Ken's Aussie accent was really good and also I've heard " you're not wrong mate" said that way heaps of times. Perhaps it's regional or depends on which circles you move in. I think I've tended to hear it either more in social situations or when talking to tradies. There is definitely still a significant percentage of the Aussie population that has that classic broad Australian accent.I think it's less common in large centres like Sydney and Melbourne which has a more neutral accent.
I'm also surprised that you think our linguistics are closer to Canadian than anywhere else. Though to me our accent is quite different to a Kiwi accent, I think most foreigners would think our accent is closer to Kiwi than Canadian and I'd have to agree with them.

March 30, 2010 at 2:17 AMah yes,I understand. Personally I see that as mostly a threading problem. Even the usual comments might bury a comment somewhere else in the thread that was only posted minutes before. I could be wrong but I think a spamming type comment in a dead thread is likely to be in there on it's own and searching to see if there was anything else recent on that thread is likely to be fruitless so I personally wouldn't go on a hunt in such a thread, but as I say,I'd call that a threading problem.
hehe,I knew I was out on my own on this one ,but ain't it grand that we all get to share our opinions here in this wonderful community. :)
