April 30, 2010 at 10:03 AMActually,I have been thinking how I really like the intro.I also like the comparison in the lessons with Mandarin. What I would like to see is some more vocab in the lessons.I realise this is being pitched at a newbie level, but I can't help but feel that if we are only going to get 10 lessons in this series then it's not going to be a lot in the end.Maybe if there will eventually be a second season of the dialects aimed at Ellie level it will be ok.

April 30, 2010 at 1:17 AMThis is especially notable when you look at Chinese transliterations of foreign words.
..ah yeah,I have noticed that.Good observations.
And "strewth??" ask any non-native English speaker to say that three times fast. Great Scrabble word, btw!
..hehe,sounds like a fun game for those wanting to be more Aussie than the Aussies. :)

April 30, 2010 at 12:33 AMThanks for that link and photo tal...really cool. Was it a good find or have you played it? If so,pray tell more about your experience. Interestingly it says it's based on the English "Squabble" which I hadn't heard of before which is a twist on Scrabble:
http://www.wikihow.com/Play-Squabble
Recently I did play "Chinese Scrabble".Actually while the rest of the fam played ordinary English Scrabble,I just used pinyin.I made an interesting discovery...or at least I should say..at least it seemed to me.I drew very few vowels as luck would have it in the game and it seemed to me that Chinese was more reliant on having some vowels than English.Just take the word "strewth" for example.6 consonants to one vowel. Can anyone come up with similar examples in Chinese pinyin to prove me wrong?

May 1, 2010 at 12:12 PMta,I'm not so young ,so in that case I'm now wondering if instead when I first come to China I should be called a 小老老外 later to graduate to a:
老老老外
