July 24, 2010 at 2:29 AMgo_manly,
thanks heaps for letting me know. Just glad the mystery is solved and that it's not a continuing problem. Also interesting to know that's what happens. No need at all to apologise , and no need to resurrect your original question. 我很满意。

July 24, 2010 at 12:38 AMhmm, looks like the case of disappearing posts continues. Unless....go_manly , I replied to your question about 总。 I think the system has lost both your question and my reply. ..unless you decided to withdraw your question by hitting "cancel" and that took my reply as well. Any insights into this?

I answer with a little trepidation as you 总 ask good questions and I've been known to stuff it up on more than one occasion, but I guess you know by now the dose of salt that goes with my opinion, so here goes:
I think you're right in that it means “always”。 I think in English when we say something like:
"Yeah but it's better than smelling bad."
..the always is kind of implied, and so it's there in meaning but less commonly enunciated..as it is in the Chinese here.

July 25, 2010 at 1:20 AMHey John B, good to hear you. Any insights on what these new iPhone apps are going to be? Will they depend on wifi access? I'd particularly like ones that would be useful while travelling around China and not dependant on connecting to a wifi network.
