..well the clue was there was only 1 typo misspelling of "theives" and you didn't make it...'twas the post before [which also contained the same typo for lier]...but again I agree with your point. Yeah, you're right..back to Chinese. have fun :)

Chanelle,

folk like you learning Chinese via a non native language amaze me, and I completely agree with your point. I'm sure it was just a typo too as your English is flawless [and thus those who didn't know you wouldn't pick up on the fact that it's not your native language]. I'm almost certain that the last comment was not directed at you though [although, now I look at it, there was a plural "guys"...maybe a defuser, hehe]

Marco Polo Syndrome...great topic! This should make for a great discussion. I've come across this concept before but not met a strong case to date...but boy I'd love to...would make for a fascinating chat. While bursting bubbles can be fun, it's such a shame 'cos bubbles are so pretty and when they're burst you're left with practically nothing.

..they also talk about modern age 周岁 and 实岁 [real age...so maybe you are right about the xusui being fake age].

I thought it also had something to do with CNY. From wikipedia:

"Newborns start at one year old, and each passing of a Lunar New Year, rather than the birthday, adds one year to the person's age."

thus if you're born just before CNY, you can be a 2 year old newborn.

"the antonym, 足歲 "real age "

..I very much like your methodology and reasoning here. I'll have to look for antonyms more as a clue [haven't noticed them before, but I mainly use mdbg....I'm guessing nciku might have 'em]. I'm wondering about this "real" though...wondering if is more an English explanation rather than a true translation [sacrilege!...not having a go a pleco here mate..finally got it btw and love it, thanks for your recommendation...never forgot your waxing lyrical about it]. My rollover has 足 meaning [as well as the well known foot] sufficient [which seems closer to being an antonym for devoid of content]...once again seeming to me to refer to the time in the womb almost being like time in limbo....not much going on content wise [perhaps this predates the days of playing mozart to the foetus to get a jump start]. ok, I'm off on my own tangent and themes, but it's fun to postulate sometimes.
