Thanks mate. I had all the first half of your very good explanation under my belt. What I was unclear about was whether there was a difference in applied usage of these two words. You have started to address this in the second half but I'm still a little unclear. My rollover says that 打针 can mean to give or have an injection so as you have implied I guess that comes down to context. I guess I need to see more example to see how 注射 usage differs, though I'm getting a sense that it is grammatical [我缺点，呵呵】。Somehow I don't feel 注射 would work at the end of your above example unless as you say you were, for example, the nurse going to give the needle, and that would be a slightly odd statement to come out with [like a petrol station attendant saying that they're going to the petrol station tomorrow to fill a car up with fuel].
