tingyun,

Another great tip with Baidu encyclopedia. Thanks mate. I'll have to remember that one. Yep, I tried google image search for just that purpose the other day, but then backed it up with zhongwen wikipedia [for raccoons/civet cats] . Have you ever compared Baidu encyclopedia and wikipedia?

Yeah, as I suspected, it's not that they can't be more specific, it's more about 老百姓说法 vs more accurate parlance by those in the know.

I've been really lazy with reviewing vocab, but I still can't help but wonder what the benefit is of labeling them by lesson. Couldn't you just go to that lesson and go through the vocab there? I guess the only thing is learning to avert the eyes from the answer...ok, I guess that's the main benefit,no?....no advantage skritter wise I can see. Still, when it comes to reviewing I'd rather have the vocab all jumbled up....though I like having the idea of being able to have them in levels if desired.

"There is one baoan in my community who is about 13 years old and looks younger; he wears a brand new uniform (complete with decorative leather sash) that is a couple of sizes too large, as though he is going to grow into it."

I wonder if he'd mind if you came up to him and said "噢,那么可爱“ and helped him adjust his uniform, pinched his cheek and asked to have your photo taken with him, arm around his shoulder/pat on the head? If things worked out, you might try your luck and see if you could adopt him.

yeah, I've noticed the same thing in this and other areas, particularly scientific areas where you would expect accuracy. But there must be Vet students and science students, etc in China where they are more specific about these things [as opposed to the 老百姓。。person on the street]. I wonder how they handle things then?
