March 27, 2011 at 12:54 AMHey mate, I was very surprised by your opening comments [seemed very out of character, thought you were way way more intelligent than that]..was going to say "you must be kidding" [thinking surely he is kidding] and thus was very relieved when I got to:
There's something wrong with this logic, no?
yes, completely agree with you. ...and what lousy timing to have a go at the Japanese after what has just befallen them.
ruishiredbird,
here's the link that explains:

we really don't need links to those wiki articles. You're not telling us anything new.

artistic license indeed. Looks like while the jam was getting up around the 10/ 11 day mark, for an individual they were clearing it in only about 5 which is very doable. Thanks for the article mate. My favourite bit was this:
"Local villagers come on motorbikes to take advantage. They are selling simple boxed meals of rice, vegetables and pork for 10 yuan (£1) each. "It's not cheap. It's not filling. But we have no choice," said Zhang, of the food on offer.
The stranded drivers, who spend their time sleeping, walking around, or playing cards and chess, are a captive market, and the local entrepreneurs are keen to take advantage. A bottle of water, normally 1 yuan, sells for 10 yuan, while the price of a 3 yuan cup of instant noodles had tripled. "It's more expensive than eating in a restaurant," complained one driver who gave his surname as Lu."
and this:
"Even if it starts moving now, it will be very slow because all the drivers are asleep," he said.

March 25, 2011 at 10:04 AMthe thing that really jumped out at me from this article was:
"highway jams that have lasted as long as nine days"
..what the? so are folk sleeping/eating etc in their cars...or are they going home at night and returning to the cars each day? What's the story here?

March 24, 2011 at 1:44 AMI was just going to make a similar comment though a little broader. If it's not really current topical stuff, it's highly interesting stuff like the 相声 and 中国通 lessons, and the UI Noodles and Child Labour lesson and Internet Privacy lesson both of which I haven't even listened to as I can't keep up. They're on a roll of great lessons. I feel like a kid in a candy shop. I don't know which lolly to stick with.

..you left out a key word: "attempting" ...and doing a lousy job of it I'm afraid, sorry folks. Also, it should be "et al"...hoping others will join me. Anyhow, perhaps it can serve as a template that will make it easier for advanced students and laoshi to zoom in on the many errors, omissions etc, and thus hopefully in the end we'll have something useful transcript wise. Cheers :)
