June 8, 2011 at 10:49 AMyou're basing this 12 and 6 on strokes also?...yeah, the second character has 6 strokes, hey.
the left of the first character with the sun in the centre would almost fit that.. the two 十's could be like the pointing hands...the top 十 is smaller and could be pointing to the 12. Maybe this is like a sundial. But my feeling is that this first character is only about date, one of the other characters is about time and the 3rd one is about place.

June 8, 2011 at 10:05 AM1:30 based on 2nd character...阳 ..the shape of it the left hand side of the radical looks a bit like a one on the left of it and a 3 on the right of it, and 日 I guess could be like a 0..after all it represents the round sun anyhow.
or is this going to be a 1+1= window thing?
I'd be willing to bet the first character giving us the date is correct, the rest I'm not sure what was on the right track and what wasn't

"A bit fancier solution could be that each character points to the other two, eg.
区 (place) is indicated by 朝阳 (facing the sun - a bit general I admit)"
so far, but I like it already. Even if it ends up being not right, that is very good mate. Impressive indeed. If not right, this might be better than li tanzhang's solution.
I'll read on now with much interest.
