June 18, 2011 at 7:24 AMI prefer your second example. It makes it clear that you don't know how to say it in Chinese. I wonder if your first example opens up other possibilities of why you can't say it [eg perhaps you know the words but you have trouble enunciating them] ...maybe not but I still feel the buzhidao is clearer for mine, though they're probably both fine.

June 18, 2011 at 7:04 AMInteresting that Lili seemed to use macho [which comes from Spanish, right?] as synonymous with male chauvinism. I tend to think of macho as being very manly and very tough [laughs at pain, scoffs at risk ]..showing a lot of bravado, could be chauvinist but not necessarily so. I guess male chauvinism is quite specific...the idea that males are superior, whereas macho is a bit more vague and might conjure up different ideas of what it means to be very manly. Perhaps the same goes with 大男子 and 大男子主义? The later seems very clear. Does the former clearly mean male chauvinism or is it closer to macho/ a bit more vague..different things to different people?

June 18, 2011 at 4:30 AMthis bit from the article is comforting, encouraging even:
"The Canadian government, in a legal document on the website of the auditor general, said it "encouraged" countries that import Canadian asbestos to follow the 1986 Geneva conventions on asbestos use and regulation"
