February 12, 2014 at 9:55 PMhaha, well I don't see anything unfair about it, think you are reading too much into it. In this case it's more to do with not knowing the persons first name, not knowing the person, so just an Aussie way to address them 而已。
On the main point, I would say I guess I was looking at it more from the angle of listening comprehension, that it's good practice for what one will no doubt encounter in the real world. Yes, the point is taken that if one wants to speak 标准 then one needs to be aware of this issue. But really it has been raised several times on this site before, and I'm very surprised if anyone at Upper Intermediate level is not aware of it. So yeah, point it out at lower levels for the sake of education, but to be throwing the towel in at this level over this.....

February 12, 2014 at 3:30 AMMate, I'm sure everyone will accept your final "n" in "In a teacher" if you meant "I'm" or your full stop where there should be a comma if you meant "In a teacher, such deficiency is unacceptable". Isn't this just good practice at listening to different accents and regional variations? Come on, stick with the programme. :)
