July 15, 2011 at 5:52 PMBecause it's looks stuck on to me and not part of the motif, and it mentions flying which is why I thought the wings were there, I didn't even think of that but it's a good thought and I guess it is pretty similar. But yeah, not much to go on otherwise and I'm no car buff so I can't tell.

July 15, 2011 at 10:10 AMbtw, on the subject of icecream, of course in English often you may request something using the brand name...eg you may ask for a Magnum...but if asked to describe what a Magnum was you'd describe it is vanilla ice cream [out comes the ice cream word] covered in chocolate on a stick. Or it maybe something the local icecream shop has dreamed up to call it. Then there's sorbet, gelato deng deng.

...good points mate. I personally have no particular hankering after such a lesson...I was not requesting it. I was more responding to waiguoren who had expressed disappointment that he felt now such a lesson would not be possible if there was such a fuss over something so minor. My point was more that it wouldn't be such a problem if it just had a pg13 warning, and that it was a lack of such a warning that could present more of a problem. But for mine, I'm not interested in using language that might upset someone, and the only reason I would learn such vocab was so I could comprehend what others were saying, but there's dictionaries and wiki articles on that stuff and I can always look it up at the time [or maybe it could be a case of ignorance is bliss, hehe ]

Looks like you were replying to me, though my feeling is you were speaking to poddies in general. You're right..that is exactly what it means and you're English seems awesome to me so I wouldn't worry about that. I think sclim has probably explained it's usage best and the reason why you may not have picked up that it can be mildly offensive to some is that there is a wide variety of circumstances and demographics where it would be considered fine. You certainly didn't upset me, and hopefully you've been able to see the lighter side of this discussion..after all learning the subtleties of language is fun right? Jiayou :)
