July 9, 2007 at 3:22 AMThanks, Connie, for the explanation! But, if I recall correctly, Jenny said that one should never use 饭桶(fàntǒng) because it is so insulting. Does that mean even when kidding around with your friends, that you shouldn't use fan4tong3?

July 9, 2007 at 3:07 AMWasn't there a lesson post (sorry, can't recall this one) where there was something about calling someone by a number...300? 500?...as an insult. My mom used to call me 三八 as a kid since I was sort of a silly girl growing up. It's not a bad name at all. I don't think that term is used in mainland China.

July 7, 2007 at 12:55 AMOh, one more I thought of. "铁公鸡 iron rooster" is in "Uncomfortable Encounter 3:44" where poor ZhangLiang runs into Lili at a bar. Cross referencing reinforces vocabulary! Yeh!

July 7, 2007 at 12:46 AMHey, didn't Jenny just mention something about "fan4tong3" (Agricultural Experience lesson 14:11) meaning stupid and not someone with a big appetite ("da4wei4wong2") Is fan4tong3 really insulting, offensive or can one use it kidding around?
