Hi amber. How would one say, "I like going without a tie in the office", rather than changing the "like" into a negative?

Eg, could I say, "我喜欢在工作的时候不打什么领带的“？

Or maybe: "我喜欢在工作的时候省得打领带“？

I am only a stupid Auntie, who doesn't know anything about computers and websites, but why oh why is CPOD so confident (arrogant?) that they don't see any need to take the site offline officially, whilst they finish tweaking their own mistakes? If the issue is that they need users to provide free beta testing, then let us in, on that understanding, by all means. But don't tell us that the down-time is going to be only 4 hours... I can't express how angry the word "gibberish" makes me feel.

Dear uncle changye, if they delete these bug-related comments, they would have lost yet another chance to learn something that they somehow failed to learn from the V2 - V3 transition. I'm fuming at the moment because a fellow user, sushan, has referred to the bug-related comments as "gibberish".

Please, sushan, CPOD should be thanking us for this "gibberish". It's like they've learned nothing at all from the mistakes of the last transition. Very arrogant. Sorry to be so grumpy! I've just tried to post on sushan's "save them from gibberish" thread, but the message I got was "comment is empty".

Dear rrandy, I hope you are already totally fluent in Mandarin, because if you're against asking intelligent questions, it's not going to be easy for you to learn very much. How was light487 to answer his own question by "taking a moment to think about it" when his dictionary is telling him that 家 = furniture (no! it means "home" or "family" or "household") and that 家园 = home (not quite! it means "homeland", in most contexts).

And his question about 胖 vs 肥 was a reasonable one which didn't deserve a disparaging response. He's -- accidentally -- hit on a language point which I wasn't about to comment on until he got smacked by your comment. In the Chinese language, the word 肥 also functions as an adjective in the Cantonese dialect. So it's not as clear-cut as one might imagine. It's not exactly esoteric knowledge; anybody who has studied Classical Chinese + a non-Mandarin dialect would stop to ask this question,instead of simply giving somebody else the quick and easy answer "duh-uh!".

Hi calkins. The 什么都 corresponds to the "... anything".

Eg. 我什么都不懂。wo3 shen2me dou1 bu4dong = "I don't know anything!"

Eg. 他什么都要的。。。“ ta1 shen2me dou1 yao4de = "He wants everything".

Hi. According to the note in my little dict, 向 and 往 are interchangeable most of the time, but certain "set phrases" require one rather than the other. Sorry I can't supply the great examples, I'm typing one-handed today coz I nearly sliced a fingertip off last night in a cooking accident. If this post is not a sign of cpod addiction, i don't know what is. I am tempted to ask the Stunt Toddler whether he can take dictation.
