I always forget that youtube is sometimes blocked. When I first saw this video, I had just returned from Beijing. I remember thinking, had I known, I could have looked him up. He probably would have seen me. That is the great thing about having intellectuals as your heros, they are much more accessible than movie stars :-).

Pinyin was not designed for foreigners to learn Chinese, but to spread literacy throughout China. In Taiwan they use bopomofo more than pinyin, although this is changing. Here is an interview with the father of pinyin.

Yes, since you ask, I think the pinyin program has been helpful. Maybe not sexy, or funny, but important. I hope you finish the chart and then some. Go as deep as you can into what it takes, and the tricks involved, in developing good pronounciation. We can all use the help, and use it over, and over, again.

I thought this was done on purpose. There was some discussion about assigning levels to the QW lessons as a guide. Last week it was "any" and this week ele. The tags only seem to show up on the me page. The level typically goes in the field that identifies the lesson type so to keep it in the qing wen section I suppose they had to do it that way. Or maybe its a glitch. A smart glitch.
