Thanks John, I never saw blurred as a definition of 花 and was thinking maybe 滑 could be used in the sense of "to slide", as in makeup "sliding" (running). Thanks for clearing that up for me.

well, you would have to ask the author about that, but its all subjective remember. I think the point is, that just as Pimsleur seems to believe, nature's prime directive holds incentives even in language learning.

Hi Podster,

yea, I love the cultural stuff as well. Not only is it fascinating but its a window into why and how we all do things and how arbitrary cultural rules can be. Evelyn has written many articles and is kick ass all around. I also have her book (NIUBI), and like you, I recommend it highly unless you are squeamish about slang related to sex and other real life issues. A necessary text for adults seriously studying Chinese in my opinion. Thank you Evelyn, and I hope that doesn't come off as creepy because its from the heart, uh, well, you know what I mean. :-)

Creepy is often inversely proportional to wealth, power, and even looks. Do you think Rupert Murdoch is creepy? 邓文迪 didnt think so. Could lulu just be jealously sabotaging her 死党's chances with this handsome guy? Was he really Wei Wei's classmate? How did he know her name? Will there be a part II ? I hear wedding bells.

there are 3 actors that are not allowed in my house. Stiller (Jr or father), Adam Sandler, and #3 is (sorry) Mr Bean. Wont happen. Never, nada, not ever.
