April 20, 2008 at 10:34 AMgesang - wow. I think Marc at least knew what was in his - or at least he thought so. Sounds like you got hold of some belladonna or something like that. Maybe you are also extra sensitive to it. Scary. Glad you are still with us :-). I also had trouble finding ibuprofen and when I did it was 300 mg but 12 hour time release. I would love to have more information regarding what OTC drugs are available in China.

April 20, 2008 at 10:10 AMLight- it will be interesting to see how strong the cultural forces are in China as wages rise, profit margins shrink, and capitalistic greed sets in. I hope you are right thinking they may fool us. Right now service is great in China because everything is over staffed by our current standards and I love it that way. Time will tell. RJ

April 20, 2008 at 8:27 AMI havent had a cold in over 20 years. I never lost my voice, that only happens to certain elementary school kids with overprotective mothers, but on one trip to China I did loose my voice somehow. I think it was that Japanese guy hacking away in the seat next to me on the plane. I wasnt sick at all - just no voice. It made it hard because I couldnt speak english or Chinese. I bought some wonderful little hyper-eucalyptic pellets that were loads of fun to eat but didnt do much for my voice. What drives me crazy is whenever you buy anything, you pick it out with the help of skilled staff and they hold it for ransom while you pay a ticket they have given you at yet another station manned by yet another person. Then you return with your receipt to claim the goods. But thats China and I have come to love it. Its kind of sad because they dont know it yet, but that wont last.
