I just used an on line dictionary that I have to admit is not a very good one. I was just surprised that zhi1dao4 was not even listed. I did a search on cpod and all but one of the sentences returned used the zhi1dao4 except for one instance where they did use zhi1dao. Just wondering what the differnce is if there is one.

My dictionary lists the following:

知道 [zhi1 dao5] /know/be aware of/
直到 [zhi2 dao4] /until/
指导 [zhi3 dao3] /to guide/(give) directions/to direct/
(5 being the neutral tone.)

no mention of 知道 [zhi1 dao4]

mmm, characters in the desert, very mysterious. Do they have crop circles in China?

Good point Sophie. We need a lesson on the finger guessing game. Complete with much beer of course. I can not remember how it works.

Joe, I think sarahjs makes a good point. No need to embarass yourself or alienate anyone, just say "the doctor says no alcohol". If pressed, claim you have a weak liver or you are allergic to alcohol. I have not seen unbearable pressure to drink in China  ............  of course I usually give in. :-)

Hi Sophie,

you can also say "my computer just went off line".

you are making me thirsty :-). Although this does not make drinking sound very glamorous. It always does seem to improve my Chinese however. Liquid confidence as it were.

clay, I think we would all love to

"meet" these sound techs. The lessons have gotten so professional now. It is very obvious when you listen to old lessons (not that they were bad) how much cpod has matured. The delivery, the acting, the sound effects, the organization. Just great. All very very professional now. Love to listen. Perhaps Amber could do a show where we can meet some of the players. Anyway, an excuse to say nice job guys. You are very good at what you do.
