CROSS TRAINING - sKiLLs to get bY. 1. Exiting & umbrellas Look downward at a 45 degree angle, block frontal sensitive areas, and move forward in a deliberate manner. You will bump into obstacles that are too slow to move out of your way. Do not rush forward, give some time for those who value their ribs to move away. 2. Blocking When an apparent cutter has moved in, move large body parts in front of them. Again, there is no rush, slow deliberate movements close to their face usually cause retreat. Line cutters appear in all forms, "nice little old ladies" are the fastest, be aware. 3. Nudging Pushing is frowned upon, this is rude. "Nudging" however is preferred over vocal requests. Simply move in closer, if obstacle has not gained awareness, slowly move shoulder inwards and step forward and past. Do not look back, there is no need. Depending on mood, you can respond to nudges by moving away or employing a full block. Full blocks may be necessary to as Amber says "maintain position". As you are so close in sometimes, a quiet "qing rang yi xia" can be employed if you're feeling "wen ming". 4. The pushback Actually this is an advanced skill that is only truly employed in Japan. Shanghai subways are minor leagues in comparison. In this move, the subway carriage is full, completely full. As in you don't have to hold onto a strap because you are fully supported 360 degrees by people around you, with the poor unluckiest soul crammed against the wall. Anyway in this move, one waits till everyone is on board. Then instead of facing frontwards and entering, one turns around, does a half squat and uses the large muscles of the thighs to push oneself back into the carriage. This gives renewed life to the old sports shout "push 'em back". As a countermeasure to a pushback on yourself at the next stop, gaining placement towards the side of the door is key, as usually pushback is done at the weakest point, the center. haha....no wonder everyone is buying cars.

OMM -- Cult, what cult? Just because I idolize certain people here, have devoted every waking moment to it, vehemently defend it's principles, tossed aside all other worldly possessions, and contribute money..... ohh. Well, can I get an intervention or maybe a tax-break? 你不要走,我有话跟你说!陪我一会儿吧。

@trevelyan, I have won Y10, Y6, Y4, Y2. From receipts at a large restaurant , small restaurant, and twice paying utilities. It's probably partly due to my incessant insistence for them, did you know you can even get it at McDs! At the restaurant where I one the Y10 they made me sign for the cash, and we all gasped at the customer that one Y100 a month earlier!! BTW, Wildyaks...the taxation is actually somewhat reversed. Instead of doing a summing up at the end of some tax period, restaurants buy books of receipts up front, or have some lump sum put into the receipt generating machines. Hence it discourages them from giving it out. And @Kyle, you're my kind of dining partner. I have gotten free coke and a pair of socks in lieu of receipts! haha

Dear Amber, CHOICES - While I lived in the U.S. I used to be able to rotate thru a variety of cuisines, for example McDonalds, OR Burger King, Taco Bell OR Dell Taco, Frostee Freeze OR Baskin-Robins. In China, do you sometimes feel your choices are limited to only rice OR noodles, pork OR chicken, or spicy OR not-spicy? How do you maintain a healthy figure and the variety that is the spice to life?
