Sorry if that was slightly confusing... Our week-long holiday has just ended, but we recorded this News & Features before the holiday started. Make sense?

Anyway, back to business as usual... whoo-hoo!

bababardwan,

You guessed right. It is, in fact, part of a new series. Future episodes will probably have to be at Upper Intermediate, though.

pinkjeans,

Well, yeah, I've had much more experience with drinking than morning sickness.

And yes, those do look like 话梅. Not much to look at, are they?

mikeinewshot,

Another way to say "zone out" is "space out." Not sure how else to say that in English...

chiongzibide,

Technically, it's not a reduplication of 好消息, but rather a use of 好好 (hǎohāo), which acts as an adverb meaning to do something thoroughly, and a reduplication of 休息 (xiūxi), which has the same effect as reduplicting any verb: indicating brevity in duration or casualness of the suggestion.

It's kind of an odd pairing, considering the respective meanings, but people do say it. Rest thoroughly (because I care about you), but do it briefly (because we both have to go to work soon, maybe?).

mikenotinjubei and calkins,

Connie and Jiaojie write most of the expansion sentences. The funny ones are usually Connie's doing. :)

bababardwan,

We filmed it at about 4:30 to 5:00pm.  We were actually quite worried that we would run into the beginning of rush hour, and it would be unfilmable. The most crowded shots came at the end of the filming, and they're the ones you see at the very beginning of the video.

Taobao is definitely not part of eBay. It waged war with eBay in China and won.

Not sure about underwear, but yes, you can buy clothing on Taobao.
