I once participated in a Chinese event where, in order to sound less confrontational, everyone had to use 同时 (tóngshí) instead of 但是. It was very difficult!

Thanks for pointing that out. I think my information was a little outdated. Probably at one time they only departed from one of Shanghai's stations.

Unfortunately, a lot of the information we incude about Shanghai is destined to become outdated eventually. Hopefully it's helpful to a lot of people before that happens!

Isn't more direct less morally repugnant? The salesperson is, after all, on the job, and should be expected to be pursuing a sale.

Less direct would be more deceptive, and thus more morally repugnant...
