February 26, 2008 at 9:23 PMKen: I really liked this lesson with a map and you promised more - which to my knowledge amounted to just one other lesson. (Please correct me if am mistaken.) Any chance for future lessons using a map, a picture or something? The only setback I could think of is for people listening to lessons on an mp3 player only - unless the map would be swapped for the CPod logo as cover art (on an iPod, that is).

January 19, 2008 at 10:46 PMuser3881: According to the wikipedia article on mahjong (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mahjong) it is a myth that mahjong is that ancient. It's more an invention of the 19th century. So my earlier claim is wrong, but mahjong was quite popular in the 1920s and 1930s.

January 18, 2008 at 10:28 PMHow about an update on Mahjong? Some explanation of rules or even describing the anachronistic scenes in some Chinese TV series set in somewhat ancient China with the people playing Mahjong. From what I know, Mahjong emerged at the beginning of the 20th century.

January 12, 2008 at 10:54 PM点 seems to be quite a versatile word. It means set off or ignite for fireworks, too (http://chinesepod.com/lessons/chinese-new-year-fireworks/dialogue). Chinese characters/ words are very ambiguous. Even the humble 了. 天啊!

March 15, 2008 at 6:49 PMI really appreciate the information on mobile repairmen. I was only able to infer that some of the guys were selling/delivering drinking water. Regarding environment friendliness: Unfortunately, in China as in India it's more about extracting more or less valuable materials from things regarded as garbage in the West, e.g. copper, lead, sometimes ICUs etc. The people that actually have to disassemble things do that under not too environment conscious and unhealthy conditions. I saw a photo of guy in India using his cooking pots and pans to extract some metal (lead?) from some electronic stuff...
