February 17, 2015 at 1:06 AMHey Si Ten! Thanks for the suggestions. Perhaps a youtube video might be quite fun for this. I'll think of some kind of quiz for Gwil perhaps. We could properly list them all. I'll keep you posted.

February 17, 2015 at 1:03 AMGreat suggestions guys! I've added it to our Trello board. Book genres are quite interesting. When I first moved back I found it weird saying "Oh the book I'm reading...It's non-fiction". Certain things are just categorised differently. We'll have a think about how to structure the dialogue :)
Posted on: When To Use “不” bù and “没” méi?
February 10, 2015 at 3:38 AMHi funmaker,
It is important when learning Chinese not to equate English grammatical rules to those of Mandarin - especially that of tense. Mandarin has a very different way of describing events in time compared to English.
沒 and 不 are not restricted to time as shown in the examples below. It always depends on what words they are coupled with (action or state of being as we discussed in the episode), and not when they happened. For example, you will never see 不有 just because something has happened in the past or in the future.
(不 used to talk about the past)
小时候我不知道学习很重要,现在我知道了。
Xiǎoshíhòu wǒ bù zhīdào xuéxí hěn zhòngyào, xiànzài wǒ zhīdàole.
I didn't know the importance of learning when I was young, now I know.
(沒 used to talk about the future)
要是你明年还没结婚,我看就不用结了。
Yàoshi nǐ míngnián hái méi jiéhūn, wǒ kàn jiù búyòng jiéle.
If you are still not married next year, then just don't do it.
Wrong: 以前我“没”认识他,昨天我认识"了"他。
Correct: 以前我不认识他,昨天我终于认识他了。
Yǐqián wǒ bú rènshì tā, zuótiān wǒ zhōngyú rènshì tāle.
I never knew him before, I finally met him yesterday.
The rule that you mentioned is taught by some Mandarin teachers, especially when teaching elementary students. As the rule tends to work at lower levels. However, as students advance, they find more exceptions and it starts to hinder progress. Thus, the recent trend (in TCSL) is to explain this grammar rule clearly at elementary level so as to give the students a good foundation for intermediate and above.
I would really encourage learner to study Mandarin in a 'Mandarin frame of mind'.
Hope that helps :) and let me know if the examples are clear.

January 29, 2015 at 9:53 AMHi Mingmao,
医师 is not a regional term. Both are used interchangeably.
医生 is a general term for people that are doctors. Where as 医师 is generally a job title 职称. i.e. 主治医师,牙医师。Because in the supp we were giving you the job title of a Podiatrist, that’s why you see 医师。
Doctors can be also referred to as 大夫 dai4fu1. This term predates western medicine and some people feel that it’s a little more dated or used by older generations. But I actually use it myself in the hospital I go to and the term is still commonly used by many people.
Hope that helps :)

January 29, 2015 at 9:52 AMHi Tony, You go visit the department (看足科) to find a (找) a pedorthist 足科矫形师. You usually have to seek out a specialist rather than go directly. It's quite similar to the English. Hope that helps.
