This "个“ is often added in spoken conversation to lighten the tone of an activity and make the activity seem quick and small or soften a command.
For example with 吃飯 to have food. You can transform the feeling of a phrase by adding this "个“ .
我们去吃饭 v.s. 我们去吃个饭 sound different. First one is simple, "let's go eat". Second, feels more like "let's go grab a bite".
So with 打招呼 v.s. 打个招呼. The first is the verb to greet someone. The second is implying how it's quick and easy to great someone or to say hi and at the same time softens a command.

Good question! I should have made this more clear in the podcast. 糟糕 is a very polite term and not bad language at all. The reason I compared it to "sugar" is that it's used in situations when you are shocked and realised that you have done something wrong or forgot something. To me it feels like saying "sugar/darn" but in no way is it a swear word like "sh.t".

I guess the circumstance of which one would say "first things first" is when there are lots of things being discussed and you want to organise the conversation.
One way to give structure to what you were talking about is 我们按部就班来看 - let's look at this in the proper order.
Or 我們一個一個來看 let's look at this one at a time.

December 16, 2015 at 7:37 AMI would say any soft or small hairs on the face fall under the 寒毛／汗毛 category. I get my face threaded every once and a while and the ladies just call it 汗毛. （Threading 挽脸 ）
