January 20, 2011 at 1:15 PM我和老婆刚把测试做完了，果然我的性格是蓝色的，她的性格是绿色的。在测试上，我们没碰到跟颜色有关的问题，都是跟别人交往和自己想法的问题。那，这个视频为什么叫“性格色彩”呢？四个颜色好像只是一个标签，跟话题没有多大的关系。
我每次做这样的测试，性格的标签都是不一样的。第一次我是"F"性格的；第二次我是"Thinker"性格的。第三次、第四次... 都忘了。好像有一次有那个没有创意的标签"Task-oriented Introvert”。
这个性格的问题也跟文化有关的吧。在美国参加培训的时候，测试后当然有四组人，每组的人数都差不多。但在中国，有一次一个朋友（英语老师）跟大概30个中国学生把这样的测试当英语角活动；结果有大概15左右Peacemakers（绿色的），只有3个Drivers（黄色的）。我估计是因为中国人比较重视人际。也许在德国，Drivers (黄色的）会是最多的！

It seems to me that the whole concept could be summarized this way:
A: Do you prefer reading books or making friends?
B: Hmmm... Making friends.
A: When you play a game with a friend, is it more important to win, or to preserve a friendly atmosphere?
B: Oh, I always want to win. I love competition.
A: That means you are [exciting drum roll...]... A task-oriented extrovert!
So... Is this science or superstition? My college psychology professor called it a party game. Neither scientific nor unscientific. Just something to talk about.
My wife and I are quite happy with the selection of this lesson. We're going to work through the FPA test tonight together. Why? Because it will get us talking. Which is always my goal for language lessons. And we'll learn about each other's habits and preferences in the process.

January 19, 2011 at 8:29 AM昨天晚上跟我老婆聊了这个话题很久，我们都觉得很有趣。上周末一起看了《傲慢与偏见》，昨天就分析一下每个人的性格：Mr. Bennet 蓝色、Mrs. Bennet 红色、Jane 和 Bingley 都绿色，Lady Catherine 黄色，等等。
最后老婆问我，有意思是有意思，但有什么用？
我第一次参加的培训叫 "Getting along with difficult people," 学习四种性格的特点就是为了鼓励参加的人多点儿去了解别人的性格和个人的需要。在这方面有用。
还有，要跟别人一起工作，我会选择性格跟我的不同的人，互相调节。最好四种基本的性格都有。
说实话，在婚姻上我也考虑过：早就知道我会娶一个绿色性格的人。果然这样。:o)

January 18, 2011 at 2:58 PM我也觉得背景音乐太大了，但我承认：我以前是电影专业的，性格也是蓝色的，所以对录音的质量异乎寻常的敏感。
我参加过几次这样性格分析的培训。据了解，这四个性格色彩的分析来自古代希腊的医学，他们认为人的性格跟身体里液体的平衡有关系。我90年代参加培训的老师给了我们一些有意思的例子：
绿色：Phlegmatic（例子：Ronald Reagan）
蓝色：Melancholic （例子：George Bush Sr.）
红色：Sanguine （例子：Bill Clinton）
黄色：Choleric（例子：Hillary Clinton）
虽然现代医学家早就否定了古代希腊关于身体的理论，但是有一些心理学家（和培训者）还是觉得人类有四个不同的性格，也发明了一些性格测试。我参加过测试的问题测量两个方面：
内向 / 外向 (introverted or extroverted)
重视完成任务 / 重视跟别人的关系 (task oriented or people oriented)
比如：
你比较喜欢：A) 看书 B) 交朋友
在做事情的时候跟别人有不同的看法，你一般会：A) 直接说 B)如果别人问你的看法才说。
我刚看了一眼FPA的测试，跟我参加过的有点儿不一样，我这个蓝色的人要仔细看...

January 10, 2011 at 1:34 AM我跟Connie一样，当年我上大学，很少有人用电脑。二年级的时候我的一个舍友买了一台300MHz Gateway 2000，大家都羡慕死了，觉得我们的房间太超前了！
当我买自己电脑的时候，当然买了个Mac! “当我电脑中毒的时候” 这句话我一直没有机会用。可怜不可怜？

January 24, 2011 at 11:49 PMSomething else ot be mindful of is that not all foreigners are from the same place, and when they meet each other they can have just as much culture shock as when they meet Chinese people (if not more). I saw this happen a lot at a school I worked at a few years ago. Foreign teachers from other countries often had a lot of friction among them, and we all often didn't understand why. Now that I have some more experience, I can look back and see that there was some non-MPS culture clash going on.
