Hi Dorothy,

I can play full lesson on my end. Is it a buffering issue? What browser are you using?

方式 more indicates the WAY to do something. 风格 more indicates the STYLE of something.

For example, 做事方式 VS 做事风格

他做事方式很简单,最重要的事先做,然后是不重要的。

他做事风格很简单,直接而且果断。

这样的建筑方式很符合哥特风格。

品味 is a verb, means to taste, to feel something.

e.g 这道菜有十种不同原料,值得细细品味。

品位 is a noun, means class, social status.

e.g 那个人有特别的品味,和其他人不一样。

‘溺爱’ 是指一个过程,如:她对孩子非常溺爱,要什么给什么。

‘宠坏’ 是指一个结果,如:她的孩子已经被宠坏了,经常发脾气。

如果是 ‘溺爱’ 和 ‘宠爱’ 比较的话,溺爱比宠爱程度更深。

Hehe, let me try this way. The 徐 in Shanghainese sounds similar to 'she' in English with more flat in the mouth movements. The 洲 is tricky, sounds like 邹/zou1 with less 'u' sound.

Well, you know Shanghainese doesn't has any own official characters till now. That 斩 is actually borrowed from Mandarin Chinese.

With the meaning of 'to cut', ' to slice', 斩 is more formal than 切 in Mandarin. In the past, it often meant 'to chop down', 'to slaught' or 'to kill with a machete‘. So that might be the reason why it's comparetively less used in modern days. But some sayings still have it, like 斩草除根, 斩钉截铁,斩首,斩获.

Depending on the context, 算了 or /siu le/ (in Shanghainese) in this dialogue is more like 'ok, I'm not gonna keep bargaining with you./ You win, I give up./ I'm tired of this.' It's ok of the translation here.
