This happened to me too. It's very annoying just as you set out on a long journey to find out you can't do any learning like you'd planned to.

Interesting approach here. I guess if you dont pay, they log you off the next time you're caught in signal range and you lose access to your content. At least the mp3's from RSS feed or manual download you can keep.

Hi everyone, we are terribly sorry about the iPhone app problem indicating that "You account has expired" when trying to log in via the app. Our technicians have resolved this issue. Once again, we apologize for any inconvenience.

The original problem is still happening. I was logged out of the app twice in the last week. I'm going away for a week with no wireless tomorrow, gonna be livid if it happens while I'm away!

Work fine this morning -- no need for bringing the paper printouts & cassette tapes ;-) Thanks!

My ipod touch app died this morning too.  I normally update it every time there is a new lesson so I can read the dialog before I listen to it online.  This a.m. I tried to update it and got the same account expired message.  No matter how many times I followed the link to sign in, it still insisted that my account had expired.  Now, I should point out that I renewed for a year in early July, but until this morning my home page still said my account would expire on July 10 2010.  Now that it says I'm good until June 2011, I can no longer use the ipod app.  No problem with the website, though, I still have full access there.  Sounds like a server problem to me.

My iPhone app just died on me on the way back from work. Pretty dissapointing.

It kept popping up "Your account has expired" while I can still log in using safari and access all materials (week 2 of a 6 month subscription) through the web browser.

Just got home, tried upgrading to the latest ChinesePod app version but that didn't fix the problem.

Tried flushing Safari cookies, browsing history, local databases and reset the phone twice so far.

No luck -- still "You account has expired" and no go.

Hope that this gets fixed asap -- its going to be so bloody primitive if I have to download & print all the lesson contents for my journey to work tomorrow.

I accidently discovered how to download cpod lessons without using the Cpod application on my iPod. But it's very cumbersome to download an lesson (all three files), then save it to the iPod, then synchronise the iPod so that the lessons download.  The lessons then get mixed in with all my songs, but they're there for those 10-14 hour flights (when I decide that I won't sleep for a few hours).

you are kidding man, aren't you?

getting cPod on your ipod is the MOST basic functionality in Chinesepod!

Hi bazzer, you experience this issue because you've logged out from your ChinesePod app account. You will be able to access all of the lessons, flashcards and dialogues you've downloaded without internet connection if you do not log out of your account via the app. You can test this by turning off the WiFi setting in your iPhone to access the lessons after downloading.

Just a thought - you are using the newest app ("learn Chinese") right? There are two Chinesepod apps and the old one is not so good.

I dont have an i-phone either - I have the i-touch (ipod). I have not experienced what you are describing. I do use the app but most of the time just fall back on the lessons loaded through i-tunes by RSS feed. I use the app mainly for the sychronized flashcards but as aI say, it has never "logged out" on me.

That's interesting, I haven't had that problem yet.

I don't have an iphone. I have an ipod. The application comes up with a screen saying "your account has expired" (I doubt it, I have a recurring subscription, which isn't even due), and asks you to log in again. I can't do that, it's an ipod and I'm not close to a wireless area. So I can't access the content.

Hi Peter, I understand this now and I believe what these guys are saying is that it logs itself out without them realizing it - this is xiao liangs complaint if I am not mistaken. Hence him running back in the house to log in again before leaving for work.

Bump. Happened again this morning. Luckily I was only just leaving the house so was able to pop back in again and log in, but I'd have been fuming if I'd only found out when I got to work.

It means, the app pops up with a screen saying "your account has expired, please log in to access it". And you can either log in, or try the 3 demo lessons. Obviously, you can't log in if you're offline.

xiao liang,

You have confused me here and with your comments to tvan elsewhere re this issue. I too have an itouch and use the app. There are some things (once downloaded and viewed) that you can continue to see offline, and some things require a connection to view. As you drive away from the house the connection is broken anyway. Are you saying that if the system "logs you out" before you leave and break the connection anyway, it makes a difference? I have not had this experience. All I know is if I dont view it online I wont be able to see it later at work. (offline). Of course you are logged off, there is no signal. Please explain.
